The Wonky team came to us wanting a video that matched their quirkiness and would support their 2023 launch into Tāmaki Makaurau.

Heard of Wonky Box? This epic company rescues surplus fruit and veggies that are deemed 'too ugly' or 'too small' from going to waste and packages them into a weekly subscription box that is sent out to customers across Aotearoa.

A day spent filming in a lettuce field resulted in the most charming explainer video for Co-Founders, Angus and Katie. And it's had massive impact for the start-up too.

Achieving a video view rate of 71% which is almost double Meta's industry average (43%), the video received 155,000 video views in just one month and pushed 8,600 visits to the website.

Since January 2023, their customer base has quadrupled (over 400% growth), they've moved into a bigger warehouse, and expanded operations across the country.

This spurred Angus and Katie to come back to ODV for two more videos and a whoooole lot of extra content for their marketing. Stay tuned for more wonky goodness...

"The growth from the video enabled Wonky to successfully expand into Auckland. As a result, we saw growth in our subscription numbers, engagement and a big jump in our website traffic."

Behind the scenes

We filmed the video in a lush lettuce field (loaned for the day from one of Wonky Box's growers) and carted a door, a conveyer belt, and a dinner table into the rows of lettuces for a full day of shooting.

We filmed the video in a lush lettuce field (loaned for the day from one of Wonky Box's growers) and carted a door, a conveyer belt, and a dinner table into the rows of lettuces for a full day of shooting.

The biggest trial of the day was filming next to a busy road with cars honking in greeting when they passed by which interfered massively with our audio (bless them).

Watch our producer's day-in-the-life video to see what it was like to actually be there!
